A lot can happen in a single school day — lessons, friendship moments, fun activities, and conversations that can change your life. All those little moments add up, and you never know which one might spark your future direction.
I enjoyed school — playing sport, hanging out with friends, and learning new things, but I didn’t really know what direction I would take. When I was younger, I thought I might become a professional athlete! It was thanks to the guidance of my teachers and parents that I discovered how much I really loved maths and science.
My mum made maths feel like a fun game, and my dad, who’s an electrician, showed me how important maths is in real life. Conversations with teachers encouraged me to think about maths as a career, and that changed everything for me. If I hadn’t been at college that day, I might never have found the path I’m on now.

This year, I’m super excited to be heading to Oxford University in England as a Rhodes Scholar. I started my learning journey at Lauderdale Primary, went on to Clarence High and Rosny College, and then studied mathematics at UTAS. Now I get to travel across the world to learn even more about how maths helps us understand everyday life — which is pretty cool!
One of my favourite things is helping young people discover how awesome science can be. Through the Young Tassie Scientists program, I get to show students fun experiments, like playing with chemical reactions, and help them get excited about STEM.
Education lays the foundations for success. Anything is possible – you just have to be there to make the most of the moments.
