For me, it’s the moments that matter.

In my time playing for the Richmond Football Club, I was lucky enough to experience some unreal moments – from winning three premierships to earning three Coleman medals and even singing on stage with The Killers!

But those big moments didn’t happen by accident. They all started with a small spark – and for me, that spark began at school.

I grew up in a sports-loving family and played soccer until I was about 13. But when I got to high school, I started playing AFL and I absolutely loved it. It’s where it all kicked off for me.

A whole lot can happen in a school day. It might be the day you discover a lifelong passion – whether that’s footy, a subject you love, an instrument you’re good at, or a passion that sets you on the path to your future career.

That’s why I believe showing up to school every day is so important.

I’m a proud Tasmanian and I really believe that education is key – not just for the future of our state, but for your future too. Whatever you want to do in life, a great education lays the foundations for success. With it, anything is possible. But, like anything worthwhile in life, you only get out what you put in.

Just like being part of an elite sporting team, you’ve got to get in there and give it a crack. You need to show up to school and do the work. I won’t pretend it’s always easy. There were plenty of days I didn’t feel like going to training or school. But showing up, especially on the tough days, is what made the big moments possible. And remember, you’re not alone. There’s always support at school if you need a hand.

So, want to do something unreal with your life? It starts now. Show up at school, put in the work even when it’s hard, have fun with your mates, and make the most of the ride.

Because those little moments? They might just lead to something bigger than you ever imagined.
